MONITOR FEATURES:
The monitor employs the technology called Thin-Film Transistor, or TFT. TFT is a special kind of field-effect transistor made by depositing thin films of a semiconductor active layer as well as the dielectric layer and metallic contacts over a supporting substrate. Liquid crystal displays, or LCD, typically use this process as a common substrate for TFT is glass. This differs from the conventional transistor where the semiconductor material typically is the substrate, such as a silicon wafer. The best known application of TFT is in TFT LCDs (thin film transistor liquid crystal display), a variant of LCD technology. Transistors are embedded within the panel itself, reducing crosstalk between pixels and improving image stability. What does this all mean for the monitor we're talking about? It certainly is quite complicated. Well, all it means is that you're getting the latest technology that offers you a very light, thin viewing surface that's easily installed onto any standard factory installed rear view mirror. Plus, you get a great, sharp and clear picture quality, something that's important while operating your camera in heavy rain or snow, or any other inclement weather, for that matter.

Rear View Backup Cameras - Product Review and Choices

The CCD Rear View Backup Camera model # CW134087CAI (pictured here) is our most popular selling product and probably the most useful one with the most applications of use you can think of. With it's 120 degree wide angle view, infrared night vision technology, sharp image transmission, and weatherproofing protection its a must for anyone who drives a vehicle. If you operate heavy machinery in dangerous construction zones, this camera is for you. If you operate a class 8 truck, tractor trailer, moving van, or any other type of vehicle with no rear window and a huge blind spot, this camera's for you. If you own a boat or an airplane and want the piece of mind knowing you're not putting yourself and others in danger while operating in reverse, this camera's for you. If you just want the satisfaction and convenience that comes with being able to see more than you can see when using your rear view mirror or physically turning around to view the road behind you, this camera's for you. This camera is indispensable for being able to navigate tight city streets during all kinds of weather conditions, and for being able to avoid otherwise unavoidable collisions had you relied solely on your own limited field of vision while trying to backup any type of vehicle. Don't take my word for it though. Check out the features of this amazing product and try it out for yourself.

What Is CCD Technology and Why You Need It?
This product employs CCD technology. CCD, or charge-coupled device, is a very sensitive electronic device that acts as the camera's "electronic eye"—it is composed of silicon chips that are sensitive to light, changing detected photons of light into electronic signals that can then be used to make images. CCD sensors are popular for digital cameras and are generally associated with higher quality images. A similar but inferior technology to that of CCD that most people have heard of is CMOS. A CMOS image sensor, which has a multi-functional chip to allow the camera to be much smaller, runs on less power and creates less thermal noise. However, CMOS sensors are much cheaper to produce and all of those extra functions for CMOS sensors tend to create more overall noise and lower image quality because of resistance and interference.
You need CCD technology because the last thing you need while trying to safely reverse your vehicle in a rain or snow storm is a grainy, less clear picture that restricts your visibility and impairs your judgement. Get the CCD technology and you'll never regret it. After all, you're looking for a dependable and reliable camera. Go with the best!

The Camera Has The Following Special Features
- Durable, rustproof stainless steel bodied camera and surface mount
- Weather and Waterproof casing.
- 1/3" CCD image sensor
- 18 infrared tubes - auto activate at night - ability to sense low and high light levels and adjust image accordingly
- High resolution 420 TV lines
- Low illumination requirement - 0 LUX (w/LEDs on)
- User adjust left/right mirror reverse image - can set to display a reversed camera image on the monitor (for vehicle rear viewing to duplicate the normal view seen in a rear-view mirror) OR a normal view on the monitor (for vehicle front viewing)
- Audio capable for listening to external sounds.
- 120 Degree Wide Angle View - Essential to get a wide picture view especially when backing up a towed vehicle or a vehicle with wide turning radius
- Standard RCA audio/video output - The connectors are compatible with this product as they would be with any VCR, DVD player, TV, or Monitor.
- Runs on standard 12V DC power supply

Here's some more detail you might find valuable

Image Sensor Technology - There are two image sensor technologies out on the market today. They are Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) and Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS). CCD technology is the one being used in almost all digital cameras and provides the best quality picture possible. CMOS technology is similar but, in our opinion, is inferior to CCD. CMOS is cheaper to produce, has lower resolution, and poorer picture quality in a low light environment. Because the cost to produce CCD is higher than that of CMOS, products using CCD technology rarely sell for below $100, even for used items. So, beware that if you see someone selling a product claiming to have CCD technology and its at a bargain basement price, the product is either broken or they're lying to you. Our products you can trust!

Wide Viewing Angle - The larger the image sensor area/size, the wider the possible/supported view angle. In the item we have showcased here we offer a 1/3" image sensor, which translates into a 120 degree angle view. The popular image sensor sensing area sizes are 1/2", 1/3", and 1/4". What you would most likely see in the marketplace are 1/3" and 1/4". However, 1/3" supports a wider viewing angle. The 1/4" image sensor is simply too small to support wide view angle lenses. So you want to look for words like 1/3" CCD Image Sensor when you look for best quality rear view backup cameras. Another factor that determines the viewing angle is the lens size usually expressed in "mm" (millimeters). Typically, the smaller the number, the wider the viewing angle. The larger the size, the further in distance the camera can focus on. Popular consumer market lens sizes are 2.8 mm, 3.6 mm, 6 mm, 9.9 mm, 20 mm, and 35 mm, with the 2.8 mm camera giving you the widest viewing angle. NOTE: The image sensor sensing area size and the lens BOTH affect the viewing angle, so if you have a 2.8 mm lens with a 1/4" image sensor, it won't give you the widest result, because the 1/4" image sensor has a much smaller sensing area size. The 1/3" image sensor would give you a wider viewing range and a higher resolution image.

Reverse Image / Mirror Image - Most vehicle rear view backup cameras have a factory installed preset left/right reverse mirror image feature, which displays a reversed camera image on the monitor to duplicate the normal view seen in a rear view mirror. This is a must have for you to see the camera view orientation correctly. If your display monitor does not have reverse mirror image feature (some vehicle-use display monitors have this feature today), make sure the vehicle rear view backup camera you choose has it. There's nothing like turning towards the left to avoid something or someone when you should have turned towards the right!!!!! Our cameras have a user-adjust left/right reverse mirror image feature.

Weather and Water-Proof - This is a must if you want to drive in the rain or snow, and comes standard with all of our cameras. BEWARE: This is only for normal usage. Going through a high-pressure car wash will damage the camera and/or render the weatherproofing useless. The same goes for submerging it for extended periods of time. There is an International Protection (IP) standard for an indication of how well the device resists entry of solid objects (first digit) and water (second digit) entry. Vehicle rear view cameras should have at least an IP66 rating, with an IP67 rating being ideal. All our cameras are at these ratings. If you plan to use it on your boat where it could be exposed to salt water, you'll need to further protect the camera. You can place a silicon type covering over it which will do the trick. You can probably purchase one suitable for the camera at any boat outfitting store.

Electric Voltage Rating - Most vehicle rear view backup cameras work with standard vehicle 12V power. A truly suitable rear view backup camera is designed to operate with constantly changing voltage levels (within normal range) produced by a vehicle's battery and alternator. If you buy any other camera that doesn't look like ours and is marketed as a vehicle rear view backup camera you are taking a huge risk with your money. Those cameras are not designed to sustain the markedly increased voltage charge that's created when starting your car or any other ignition system that uses a battery. The voltage overload caused at the time of ignition will damage any non-rear view backup camera.

Illumination Rating / Night Vision - The minimum illumination requirement rating is noted in LUX, which is a unit of illumination equal to the direct illumination on a surface that is everywhere one meter from a uniform point source of one candle intensity or equal to one lumen per square meter. 1 LUX = 1 lumen per square meter = 0.093 foot-candles. Lower LUX rating cameras work better in low light. Black and white cameras are more sensitive to light, so they are more suitable for night vision. CCD cameras work much much better at night than CMOS cameras.

Audio Capability - This CW134087CAI camera has audio!!! Some cameras don't. Audio is useful for hearing outside noises of people or things that are perhaps outside of the viewing range of the camera. The noises will help alert you to be attentive to objects that might be close to you or approaching or moving away from you. Some cameras don't have audio capability because the manufacturers haven't found a way to adequately construct the camera in order to protect the microphone from water and other foul weather. Our cameras, including the microphone casing are both weather and waterproof. Please note: If you already have a navigation system with audio that's great. If you have one without audio capability, of course there then is no need to get a rear view camera that has audio.
